Capture3D by Steve De Micoli and dfab.studio
Capture 3D is a start-up company which provides laser scanning services: an advanced 3D digital technique for detailed surveying and scanning of spaces.
This service is extended to include the post processing of data obtained from scans which can be converted into 3D images, 2D plans/elevations, fully integrated 3D CAD models, workable ACAD drawings and fly-through simulations.
The technology, originally developed for forensics and archaeology, will be used to scan the entire MDW 2014 exhibition, reproducing an identical digital copy of it in the utmost of detail.
After the exhibition has been setup the scanning will begin. The estimated number of scans required to capture the entire exhibition will be in the region of 50-70 scans. Each scan captures approximately 2 million points in colour and records anything within a 2mm tolerance.
Once the scanning is complete they are stitched together through a registration data processing to create the entire final 3D digital model.
A series of short “Fly-through” videos will be produced and uploaded online ensuring this unique opportunity of having Malta Design Week within St. Elmo can be virtually revisited for the years to come.
