Maltatype is a crowd-sourced collection of examples of good typography and type-related elements adorning the streets of Malta and Gozo.
It was created from a love of type, the Maltese lifestyle and the styles and techniques used to create these signs that often go unnoticed by the public in a saturated urban environment.
Maltatype celebrates these signs, their history and their makers, and aims to document and preserve them by taking them out of their current context of derelict and neglected buildings and giving them a new lease of life. Maltatype is an online resource for everyone to access; it is a visual and documentative.
For Malta Design Week, the Maltatype team decided to create an installation, taking inspiration from all the different fonts and techniques we discovered since launching Maltatype. We want the public to appreciate these elements that are an inherent part of the Maltese national identity, history and art.
