This project is a structure which combines principles of topological interlocking assembly together with multifunctional environmental material systems. It explores the relationship between material, geometry, fabrication and the environment.
Through variations in geometry, the local articulation of the material system begins to create a micro-environment around the structure, shading areas of higher solar exposure and increasing ventilation through the augmentation of natural breezes. The structure is a celebration of a self-sufficient micro-nation whose resourcefulness allows them to passively exploit and modulate the environment surrounding them.
The structure will also function as a piece of urban furniture by providing seating and a space for lingering within the quad.
This project is being coordinated by: Dr. Toni Kotnik (ETHZ), Irina Miodragovic Vella (UOM) and Steve De Micoli (dfab.studio)
